Fashion Designer, Avnah Davis-Long was born in Israel, October 1, 1977. She was raised in humble surroundings with strong artistic traditions.  She was taught the creative skill of crochet at the young age of nine by her mother Marie Davis and introduced to sewing shortly after. The art of fashion was not an interest to Avnah until the age of twenty five, year 2002. That is when she began to crochet swimwear and clothing which gave her high recognition.  This was the year Avnah released the crocheted couture swimwear collection that originally launched the fashion line Avnah Couture®. This collection, featuring the crocheted couture line was first released to the public at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Ga.  One year later the Haute Couture Collection was introduced into the collection.

Although she never received any kind of formal training or fashion schooling, her career as a designer has made a tremendous mark in the fashion industry in a short amount of time. Her typical distinctive style soon became the favorite along with the playful use of colors which gives her pieces a unique energy and contrast. Known for pushing the envelope you can always expect the unexpected from this designer.  Every Runway show has a new twist as she always provides her audience with the best presentation of her designs.  She has been featured in Atlanta International Fashion Week and had been noted the Designer to Watch.  Expect greatness form this designer as she breaks the fashion norm and created futuristic designs far from everyday trends.

As Head Designer, Avnah wants to provide different degrees of couture clothing, so that it is affordable for everyone to wear. Each line of design features similar pieces that are made from a variety of fabrics and materials for those on a strict budget. Her goal is to make the world more beautiful by wearing Avnah Couture. Her vision is to team up with different charity organizations so that every purchase of Avnah Couture goes to a mission to help someone or some country.  That is and will continue to be the beauty of Avnah Couture.

When did you know you wanted to be in the fashion industry?
I realized I wanted to be in the fashion industry when I noticed the repetitious designs from various designers. I wanted to see and create more signature pieces.

How long have you been in the industry?
I have been in this industry for ten years.

What is your role in the industry?
My role in this industry is fashion designer, but I also venture out into wardrobe styling for different project, mainly helping models develop their portfolios for agencies.

What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion means color, the flow and movement of garments and the beauty of craftsman ship in creating designs. Fashion should make us feel good, look good and put our best self forward.  It is what every individual has to decide on everyday.

What is your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from simple things, like the color of tropical fish, the way the trees flow in the wind, and different cultures. It is the little things around me that inspire me.

Is there a theme or message in your clothing?
My clothing sends a message of uniqueness and diversity.

What makes your clothing/accessories unique?
My clothing is unique because of the detail and creative designs that I put into each project.  Each piece has something diverse and usually reflects the mood I’m in.

Your target demographic?
My target demographic is young women between the ages of 19-45.  I want to give them classiness, glamour and edge.

What are the materials you work with,color, patterns, hardware, etc.?
I work with all types of fabrics and materials from silks, leathers, yarn, latex, spandex , Rayon, cottons, paper…I have worked with a lot of materials.

What is your favorite piece/item you have ever done?
My favorite piece was actually a wedding dress made out of bubble wrap that glowed in different colors as the model walked down the runway.  This dress was featured as my finale piece at Atlanta International Fashion Week.

Quote that defines you in the business or personally.
“A risk taker.”  When I first started out I use to hold back a lot of my creativity due to a fear that it would not be accepted. As I began to just take a risk and put it out there the response was huge and I never held back sense. I have been known to take risk and step out of the box,  Sometimes you have to step out and risk being different.

What is your favorite fashion season?
My favorite fashion season is the winter.

How do you feel the recession has affected the fashion industry, if it has at all?
I think for some designers that it has affected them tremendously.  A lot of people cannot afford the clothing and finances are strained.  Most are trying to reinvent there clothing or wearing them in new ways.  I feel as the economy begins to pick back up, this will be the first industry to strive.

What trend could you do without this year/season?
I don’t have a specific trend and as a designer I am able to mix up a lot of trends and make it unique

What trend do you love this year/season?
The use of color, the deep V neck, dresses and shirts and the unique cuts in clothing

Gavin Rajah, Roberto Cavalli, Dolce Gabbanna

What is your most beloved fashion item (accessory, shoes, and/or clothing)?
I love shoes, oversized handbags, hats, and maxi dresses.

What is the most memorable/favorite moment in your fashion career/history? 
When I first launched the fashion line Avnah Couture ®.  It’s like my child, I nourish it, I put love into it, I invest in it and I have wonderful future plans in store for it.
